Chennai: Five cities in Tamil Nadu – Tambaram, Kancheepuram, Kumbakonam, Karur, Cuddalore and Sivakasi – will soon be upgraded to the company by combining areas side by side with them, said Minister of Administration in the city of K Nehru in the Assembly on Tuesday.
This step will increase the number of city corporations in the state of 15 to 21, help overcome infrastructure imbalances in areas side by side with urban local bodies and improve people’s living conditions, officials said.
Tambaram will be enhanced by the company by combining the city of Pallavaram, Basakkam, Pammal and ChildrenAputhur and the nearest area, the Minister said while answering the debate about the demand for grants for the City Administration Department.
Nehru also announced that Trichy, Nagercil, Thanjavur and Hosur Corporations and Chengalpet, Poonamallee and Mannarkudi Municipalities will be expanded by combining the closest advanced regions of them.
Chosen members of the local body in areas fall under new companies, expanded companies and expanded cities will continue at their post until the next local body selection.
He also announced upgradation from Pallapatti, Thittakudi, Mangadu, Kundrathur, Nandhivaram, Guduvanchery, Ponneri, Thiruninravur, Sholingar, Editanasalai, Taramangalam, Thirmuurupondi, Gudalur, Karamadai, Karumathampatti, Madukkarai, Vadalur, Kottakuppam, Thirukovilur, Ulundurpet, Adirampattinam, Manamadurai, Surandai , Kalakadu, Thiruchendur, Kollankode, Mursiri and the city of Lalgudi Panchayats to the city.
Pugalur Municipality will be made by combining PunjaPugalur and TNPL Pugalur Town Panchayats.
Government decisions to improve and expand urban local bodies will improve basic facilities and infrastructure in the region with better and financial land resource mobilization.
