Chennai: new casts fell to 1,797 in the state on Wednesday, when all districts except Coimbatore reported less than 200 new cases.
However, 20 districts including Kancheepuram, Tiruppur and Villupuram reported a marginal increase in new cases compared to Tuesday.
31 deaths pushed the toll count to 34,610 and cumulative tally to 25.94 lakh.
After the use of 1,908 people, the state was left with 20,083 active cases.
Coimbatore reported 210 cases followed by 198 in Chennai and 156 in Erode.
While Chengalpet has 108 new cases, Salem recorded 103.
Tiruppur, reported the sharpest increase from 12 cases from 77 on Tuesday to 89 on Wednesday along with Kancheepuram, where cases rose to 42 out of 30 during the same period.
Villupuram reported an increase in seven cases up to 35 and Thiruvarur reported an increase in six cases to 39.
The sharpest decline was reported from Salem, where the case fell to 103 on Tuesday.
“While some districts show an increase, we do not see a drastic decline in any country.
That is one reason why we should not drop our guards,” said Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan.
Of the 31 deaths, Coimbatore reported five, Salem and Tiruppur respectively reported four, followed by three in Nagappatinam.
Four districts including Chennai and Trichy reported two deaths respectively, seven districts reported one of their respective deaths, 23 districts reported zero death.
Meanwhile, 2.2 lakh lakh people took vaccines on Wednesday took the calculation of doses in government centers to 2.5 crores.
In addition, 18.7 doses of lakh have been given in private hospitals since May 1.
