Chennai: Tamil Nadu government will shut down 32 Toll Plaza on the national highway, said Minister for PWD and highway E V Velu in the Assembly on Thursday.
Number of toll plazas on the NHS will drop from 48 to 16, he said.
In the neighboring state of Kerala, the number of toll plaza has been reduced to three in accordance with the provisions of the cost of the national highway (the determination of the rate and collection) Rules 2008.
In Tamil Nadu, there should only be 16 toll plazas appropriate rules.
(The rules say there should be a minimum distance of 60 km between the two plazas.
However, there are 48 toll plazas in Tamil Nadu today and 27 of them in violation of this rule).
