Chennai: Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M on Wednesday announced that a minister’s main statue and DMK Patriarch M Karutanidhi will be reinstalled Anna Salai in Chennai.
The statue of the leader who was installed on the Arterial Road was previously damaged on December 24, 1987, hours after that CM M G Ramachandran died at his residence in Ramavaram Gardens.
The statue was broken in the next violence.
It was installed by Dravidar Kazhagam in 1975 to fulfill the dream of the founder of the E V Ramasamy Party (Periyar) at the intersection of General Patters Road and Anna Salai in Chennai.
It was launched by the Adigter Kundakudi religious leader.
“President Dravidar Kazhagam K Veeramani met me a few days ago and urged me to reinstall the Kalaaignar statue by Kaaignar in Anna Silai.
When I explained to him the court order regarding the installation of statues in public places, he told me that the statue was installed 45 years ago after getting the government’s permission at that time, “Stalin said in the assembly while replying to Thiru VI Nagar Ka Nagar Mla V Neelakanandan (DMK), during the debate about the demands for grants for various departments.
Neelakarandan, while participating in the debate, appeal to CM to install a used CM statue again on Anna Salai.
“We will discuss with legal experts and make efforts to install used cm statues on Anna Salai without disturbing public flow and traffic,” Stalin said.
There were statues of Periyar and former Minister of C n Annadurai and M g Ramachandran at Anna Silai.
