Chennai: A 36-year-old man cheated a 4.5 lakh rs woman with promising government work after claiming that he was a personal assistant (PA) to Chepauk Mla Udhayanidhi Stalin was arrested on Sunday.
According to the police, K Thenmozhi (33) from Tirupattor worked in a private company in Chennai in 2018 when he became acquainted with Rajesh Karunamurthy Chennai through a friend.
As Rajesh’s friends can get government work, he paid Rs 4.5 lakh to Rajesh by recording.
However, he immediately realized that he was cheated and wanted his money back.
Rajesh, meanwhile, failed to return money and ignore his call.
Therefore, the woman filed a complaint to the Kandili Police in the Tirupatttur district.
Even when the investigation was taking place in his complaint, Rajesh called him and claimed that he was Pa to Udhayanidhi Stalin, The Chepauk Mla.
He also threatened him that his life would be destroyed if he survived in the case of then Mozhi recorded a telephone conversation, which then leaked on social media.
He again filed a complaint with the Kandili Police about threats released by Rajesh.
The police conducted a detailed investigation and arrested Rajesh for deceiving the woman and misused the name MLA.
Police said Rajesh did not have a political party affiliation.
He was ordered on charges of cheating, imitation, and criminal intimidation.
He has lured prospective employment with similar promises in other locations in the state too.
“He used the names of leading politicians depending on the district where he was operating,” said a police officer.
He has been returned.
