Chennai: Minister of Water Resources Duraimurugan on Saturday said the Department of Water Resources Nadu was in full control of Mullaseriyar Dam and had regulated water content in the dam in accordance with the monthly storage approved by the Central Water Commission and according to the order of the Supreme Court.
He tried to rest the controversy on charges that the government of Kerala had forcibly opened the dam gate.
In a statement, the minister said that there seemed to be some motives behind some of the wrong media houses reported about the operation of the dam.
It must be avoided for the interests of the state, he said.
“There is no doubt about the determination of the state to store water in the Mullasyar Dam at the 142ft level which is permitted from November 30, depending on the flow of entry to the dam,” Minister said.
The water level reaches 138.85ft at 8 am on Saturday, with the entry stream of 3,404 cusecs (cubic feet per second) and the outflow of 2,340 cusecs through the tunnel to the Vaigai Dam and 875 Cusec through exposure.
Two leaves of the Mulaperiyar Dam window have been served, in a statement, the AIDMK Coordinator O Panneerselvam raises doubts about the need to release water to Kerala when storage does not reach 142ft and districts such as Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram have not received water from the dam.
He refers to the opposition from the farmer’s association and their plan to hold agitation and try to find out whether the leaves of the window are filled with the Kerala government.
Duraimurugan said the Madurai zone from the water resources department decided to raise the window leaves of the Mullasyar dam by considering the increase in storage levels.
Tamil Nadu engineer lifted two window leaves on Friday morning to release 500 cusecs.
Officials concerned in Kerala are intimidated in advance according to standard operating procedures.
Kerala ministers and officials are present when the window leaves are raised, he said.
