Trichy: After stiff opposition from opposition parties, the state government has attracted its proposal to prepare detailed project reports (DPR) to establish petrochemical clusters in Nagapattinam.
In the announcement, it was published as the Corrigendum newspaper, M-TIPB stated that the request for the proposal (RIP) for the preparation of the DPR to build petrochemical clusters was withdrawn for administrative reasons.
The purpose of the cluster was to establish 90 lakh tons of petroleum capacity and chemical-related business units around the refinery built by Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) in Nagapattinam with an estimated cost of Rs 31,580 Crore.
The decision of the Trade and Investment Promotion Bureau (M-TIPB) to cancel the offer to prepare the DPR was welcomed by the founder of PMK Dr.
Ramadoss.
He said that PMK welcomed the state of the state government to leave the proposal, which would endanger the purpose of a protected specialty zone.
On October 30, Ramados issued a statement that condemned the government to floating proposals to prepare the DPR.
Quoting that the proposed site falls under a specially protected agricultural zone from the Cauvery Delta area, the PMK leader has accused the DMK to attract investment instead of maintaining agriculture and the state environment.
The AIDMK Coordinator O Panneerselvam also issued a statement on November 1 called the step as the ‘Dual Standard’ of the DMK government.
In a statement on Monday, Ramados demanded the government to include the petrochemical industry in the forbidden list under the Development Law of the Tamil Nadu Protection Zone, 2020.
