Salem: Five people, including three women, were killed after a two-story building collapsed after the LPG cylinder explosion in a house in Karungalpatty in Salem on Tuesday.
Thirteen people who were injured in the explosion were treated in the government of Salem Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital.
The deceased was identified as S Rajalakshmi, 80, Karthik RAM, 18, Padmanabhan, 49, his wife Devi, 39, and Ellummut, 90.
Padmanabhan worked as a special station officer in the fire department and rescue service.
According to Shevapet police, the building has four houses.
The cylinder exploded when Rajalakshmi, a tenant, tried to turn on the gas stove.
“The building immediately fell,” police said.
Fire service personnel and rescue from the Shevapet Fire Extinguisher Station rushed to a place along with police officials.
