Chennai: A masked man sneaked into a house in Avadi on Saturday night and, with the pretext of looking for water, winning eight sovereign gold chains from a woman.
Rajakuumari, a 58-year-old tailor who lives in ICF Colony in Bukatur, overseeing work in a family home is building a plot in Morai in Avadi when the incident occurred.
Around 6pm, the workers involved in construction had left and RajakuMari watered a row of plants when a man approached him and asked for a glass of water.
Believe that he was truly thirsty, he entered the house in development to bring him water.
The man also followed him, but Rajakuumari failed to pay attention to this because he did not turn on the lights, a police officer said.
Before he could lift the water jug, the man defeated him, winning eight sovereignty chains, worth around Rs 2.8 Lakh, and escaped from the crime scene, the officer said.
RajakuMari shouted for help and tried to pursue when he pushed it.
Before the neighbor of the woman could arrive, the man escaped in darkness.
Based on the complaint from the woman, the police Tank Factory Avadi registered a case and had launched the hunt accused, which seemed to be in the late 20s, based on the identity given by RajakuMari.
His face doesn’t look like he has covered it using cloth.
The suspect police came to the place on a bicycle and parked it in the distance before escaping on it.
They also saw whether the man received input from the construction workers team and targeted him because they were the only ones who knew that the victim was alone.
They tend to interrogate workers too.
“We collected CCTV camera footage from the main road, to set the man’s identity,” said an investigative officer.
