Chennai: A masked gang of ten members breaks into the house in Acharakkam and ties family members before running away with 20 sovereign gold jewelry, 30,000 cash and two silver items on Wednesday night.
At 8:45 a.m., Gajavaradhan, 70 of the village of Kadamalapututut in Acharakkam was watching TV with his wife Lakshmi Bai, while his son Jaganathan, Hemalata and his son who daughtered in another room.
The police said the masked gang walked home and began attacking Gajavardhan and Jaganathanm.
They tie all family members with a rope.
They threatened the 70-year-old man and asked him to lock almirah.
Within minutes, they took almost 20 sovereign gold jewelry, two kg silver items and 30,000 from home.
While leaving home, they raised the television volume to make sure the neighbors did not know about robbery.
Police said gang members did not communicate much among themselves to ensure that the victims did not get instructions.
They left the door locked from the outside.
Gajavardhan managed to cut the rope using his mouth and released other family members.
He told his friend by telephone, who then told the Acharakkam police station.
The police examined CCTV’s footage to find out the identity of the suspect.
The police suspected the involvement of the North Indian gang behind the robbery.
“They have chosen a house because it is located in a quiet stretch.
We also check if there are strangers or friends who visit them,” said an officer.
