Chennai: The vaccine stock approaches zero in several Tamil Nadu districts on Tuesday night.
In the morning, the country is left with only 60,000 vaccine doses.
At night, almost all doses run out.
Wing immunization said fresh shares are expected on July 11 on schedule.
“It is an irony that when people let go of doubts and queuing for vaccines, we don’t have it,” said Minister of Health MA Subramanian.
Subramanian and senior health officials will meet the Union Minister Harsh Vardhan on Friday to discuss the issue including a lack of vaccines, receipts for MBBS courses in AIIMS, Madurai and eleven new medical colleges.
“We will also discuss temporary accommodation options for medical students treated in AIIMS, Madurai,” Subramanian said.
So far, 1,577 crore doses have been allocated to the country.
On Monday night, the country had used 1.578 crore doses, he said.
In February, Tamil Nadu was accused of wasting up to four doses of lakh vaccines.
“This waste happens at the AIADMK regime.
Now, two things have changed the situation.
More people come to vaccinated now.
Secondly, vaccinators are now more careful about waste,” he said.
“Previously they would open a bottle even if there were four people and almost six doses would be wasted in vain.
Now they use up to 12 doses of the bottle,” he said.
With this country is not only made for waste, but also saves up to 1.4 lakh doses, he said.
