TN: More than 6.6K is held in hard action on drug sales

Chennai: In the crackdown on drugs, Gutka, and lotteries in all states, the police have arrested 6,623 offenders involved in selling prohibited products.
Piercings have occurred throughout the state since December 6, said a police officer.
As part of the operation, the police confiscated 23 kg of heroin worth 23 crores in the Touothukudi district.
In other operations, the police arrested 871 offenders involved in 816 cases of marijuana sales.
They also confiscated 1,774 kg of marijuana worth 1.8 crore.
184 Vehicles (129 bicycles and 25 cars) used to smuggle contraband goods are also confiscated.
Among those who were arrested periyasamy, 39 and Srinivasan, 30, from Andhra Pradesh was a big smuggler.
With the arrest of both, the police said that marijuana smuggling would be locked up mostly.
In other operations, the police arrested 5,037 people in 5,457 cases.
And grab gutka worth 4.2 crore from them.
Trichy and Poonamallee witnessed the highest confiscation of Gutka 540 kg and 1,200 kg each.
In connection with the sales of lotteries, the police arrested 1,091 people in 816 cases and won the lottery worth 35.4 lakh.
The police have asked the general public to remind them of ‘100’ and ‘112’ if they find anyone who sells marijuana, gutka, and lottery.
