Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Friday moved the Supreme Court to direct the Central Air Commission to reject and restore the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed Mekedatu-Balancing Drinking Water Project submitted by Karnataka in January 2019.
The step came against the background Rear the step of the Cauvery Water Management Authority to enter the Mekedatu Dam plan from Karnataka in his agenda for the scheduled meeting on August 31.
“The court can be happy to resist the UNI Minister of Environment and its forests and institutions from entertaining any application for permissions related to the Mekedatu project,” said the Tamil Nadu government in its petition.
The country believes that the Karnataka Government Dam proposal violates the last commandment of the Cauvery Water Dispute Court as modified by the Supreme Court.
“Stand of Karnataka that the main objective of the Mekedatu reservoir is to implement the tribunal award is a tactic that is suitable for water to the maximum possible,” said the petition.
The Government of Tamil Nadu registered his objections in various letters to the Ministry of Jal Shakti and the Central Air Commission for the proposition that there was no justification for the large storage proposed 67.16TMCFT in the Mekedatu reservoir in front of the border between countries.
The project involves a total of 5,252.4 hectares, where 4,996 hectares are under immersion vessels (Caucers Marglife Sanctuary, Forest Forest and Revenue Lands) and the remaining 256.4 hectares are needed for other construction activities.
Tamil Nadu said the project contemplation was also outside ignoring the last adjudication provided by the court as modified by the court and numbers cancel the adjudication given by the court, resulting in uncontrolled current, which must flow to Tamil Nadu, according to the Order of the court.
The state government remembers the petition at the APEX court against the Dam Mekedatu which has been delayed since 2018, and statement of the Ministry of Environment and Forest Union in 2019 that the reference framework grant for the project was only after a peaceful solution between the two countries.
