Chennai: The Government Government has made a fresh allocation of 9.1 lakh tons of rice and wheat worth ₹ 3,325 crore to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for free distribution to the ration card holders through PDS outlets for five months, starting in July.
The distribution of food granules under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) is intended to mitigate the difficulties of the poor and marginalized.
Puducherry will get 3,140 tons of rice every month.
While the center equipped the FoodGrains to 3.57 Crore recipients, which are categorized as priority households and fall under Anna Yojana’s Anyodaya in Tamil Nadu under the National Food Security Law, the Government of Tamil Nadu adopts universal PDS and has supplied rice completely on two Crore rice.
Card holders, including non-priority households.
Under the fourth phase of the previous PMGKAY – the previous phase came from April to November last year, and May and June this year – this center has allocated five kg of rice / wheat per head free.
“Until now, the Indian government has supplied 16.5 lakh tons of grains, including 15.78 lakh tons of free rice under PMGKAY.

Incidentally, the FCI provides 10.98 lakh tons of food gardens for around ₹ 3,780 crore with subsidized rates ₹ 22 / kg to Tamil Nadu to meet non-priority household needs in the state.
The Government Government has spent ₹ 37 ₹ 38 per kg towards rice procurement, milling, transportation, and storage, but supplied to consumers with ₹ 3 / kg rice and ₹ 2 / kg wheat under national food security law, while the Tamil government Nadu is provided free for all.
“We provide 3.06 lakh tons of rice every month to the Public Distribution System of TN, and we will add 1.78 lakh tons of rice under the PMGKAY scheme.
Tamil Nadu is also expected to get 45 lakh tons of rice this season from the direct procurement centers , “Nazeem said.
