TN: Re-installation of bronze fish statues begins

Madurai: Preliminary Work To reinstall the bronze statue of three iconic fish in Junction Railway Madurai starts on Saturday.
This will be reinstalled by the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TNCCI) at Rs 20 Lakh.
The re-installation work began before Madurai MP Su Venkatsan and senior Railway officials.
President Room N Jegathean said a bronze statue as high as 15 feet weighing between 2.5 to 3 tons with three fish jumping on top of each other was installed in the fountain at the eastern entrance of the intersection in 1999.
It was to perpetuate the Memory of the Pandian Pandian symbol .
About two and a half years ago, it was removed when the train took infrastructure and beauty work to facilitate the entry of bus buses and other vehicles to the intersection’s main entrance.
Bronze fish statues were removed in collateral by the Train Manager last Division (DRM) provided alternative places to reinstall.
The statue was safely stored in a room on the railway, and DRM P Ananth provided a room in front of a national flagpole of 100 feet at the east entrance to replace the statue.
The statue will be installed in the middle of the fountain.
“We hope the work is completed within a month,” added President Room.
