Tuticorin: Sterlite on Friday night began to close oxygen production at the promises of copper smelter in Tuticorin.
July 31 is the deadline set by the Supreme Court to stop production, according to the previous order which gives three months for plants to produce oxygen.
According to company sources, Unwinding starts around 4pm as a plant requires one day for the process of disbursement and stops oxygen production.
The termination of production began as the Supreme Court on Friday posted on August 6 to hear the appeal from Sterlite looking for six more months for oxygen production.
On April 27, the Supreme Court gave permission to the company to operate a sterlite oxygen plant until July 31 to meet the oxygen requirements of people treated for Covid-19.
The sterlite factory remains sealed since May 2018.
The effort to start oxygen production began in the first week of May.
Oxygen generation in plants with a capacity of 1,050 metric tons per day – two units with a capacity of 535 metric tons and 515 metric tons – starting on May 13.
However, it was closed in one day because developing technical barriers it took five days to be repaired.
The oxygen generation continues on May 19.
The company brings together oxygen until Friday.
The company has sent 2.132 metric tons of liquid oxygen and 7,833 cubic meters of gas oxeans – purity of 32 districts in Tamil Nadu.
As on Friday, the factory has a stock of 134 metric tons.
Express optimism that it will get a profitable order from SC to continue production, the company has asked the Tamil Nadu government to provide 2 megawatt the power supply to the oxygen unit to maintain it in standby and to meet the essential delivery of the remaining shares coming out at the factory.
