Trichy: The Administration of the Thanjavur District has sealed a hotel that functions on the land of the department of income on charges of causing RS 12 Crore losses by not meeting the number of annual leases needed for years.
The hotel authorities did not take this problem seriously despite sending recurring reminders, Dinesh District collector Ponraj Oliver told reporters on Monday.
One hectare and 6,160 square feet of land were given to one selvaraj on rent for 30 years ago, where he built a hotel.
There are rules that those who get the land of rent may not rent it to anyone.
However, Selvaraj violated and rented the land to two more people for commercial purposes, further collectors stated.
“This hotel is located in the primary city location with 35 rooms, restaurants, two party rooms and bars.
The total value of property is worth around Rs 40 to Rs 50 Crore.
So, to avoid losing further income to the government, we have taken action along with the corporation and police officials, “he added.
The 15 guests stayed at the hotel emptied their rooms on Sundays and their rent was returned, the collector further stated.
In a similar case, the crime branch police arrested a man on Sunday and was looking for three other people in the complaint submitted by Thanjavur City Corporation accusing them caused Rs 19.14 Crore to lose ASI by not paying monthly rent to the corporation.
In 1926, a corporate 40,793sqft site located near the old bus holder was leased to Sri Sudarsana Sabha for more than 100 years.
Sabha pejamin sublet 29.747sqft to the private sector violates the norm.
When discovering a violation, the corporate authority sealed Sabha and other commercial companies three months ago.
Meanwhile, based on the complaint proposed by the Corporation Corporation authorities, the city crime branch police ordered the Chairman of Sabha R Ramanathan and his three brothers to cause Rs 19.14 Crore to lose and arrest him.
