Madurai: A 10-year-old girl died at Medical Medical College Kanyakumari Hospital on Saturday morning, two days after her stepfather tried to kill him by burning it, allegedly angry by stealing snacks from the bakery.
Stepfather, Jesu Antony Raj, was in the same hospital treatment for his injury and therefore had not been arrested.
The defendant was the second husband of Suja, who came from a periyav valuation in Kankumumari and had two daughters and a son with his first husband.
Both were married after the death of Suja’s first husband and was in Kavalkinaru in Tirunelveli.
The incident occurred on Wednesday when the girl, who went to the bakery where Antony Raj worked, allegedly made with a biscuit package.
The owner of the bakery complained to him about ‘theft’ and scolding him.
Angry with this, Antony Raj came home that night and collected the three children to ask about the incident.
In anger, he poured kerosene in children and burned it.
Looked on the screams of children, neighbors rushed in and tried to extinguish the fire.
From the three children, one boy and a woman escaped without getting hurt but the 10-year-old girl suffered severe burns.
At that time, Suja, who wasn’t at home, arrived and saw a terrible sight.
He rushed the girl to the Medical College Kanyakumari hospital in Asariipalalayam which was closer to their home.
The medical hospital authority said the girl suffered 95% burns and had been in critical condition until his death.
The body will be handed over to the family after postmortem examination.
Panagudi police said that the dying declaration of the victim was recorded before his death and registered case had also been changed for murder.
Further investigation is taking place.
