Chennai: The gang of three members attacked the elderly couple and robbed them from a two-sovereign two-sovereign gold chain and 40,000 cash in their homes near Periyapallayam in the Tiruvallur district on Wednesday.
Jadarayan and Shakunthala are on the ground floor and daughter and their son-in-law on the first floor.
At 3 o’clock in the morning, Jadarayan came out of his room after hearing an unusual voice when he found a masked gang stealing cash from almah.
He tried to raise the alarm, when they attacked him using an iron rod.
Hearing his cry, Shakunthala came out of his room, when the gang grabbed five sovereign gold chains and attacked him using a stem and fled.
Because their daughter was on the first floor, she did not hear anything until Jadarayan shouted for help, when the duo rushed down.
They brought the couple to a government hospital in Periyapalayam and warned the police.
The police suspected that the couple had been targeted because the house was located above a quiet stretch.
The police have registered the case and are investigating.
