TN: Two foreigners steal 60k from bike showroom

CHENNAI: Two men claiming to be from Greece escaped with 60,000 from a two-wheeler dealer showroom in Sriperumbudur after buying a t-shirt worth 500.
While the incident occurred on Friday, CCTV camera footage of the incident went viral on WhatsApp on Sunday.
The showroom on the Bengaluru-Chennai highway belongs to a man named Sushi Kumar, said a police officer.
The victim told police that the foreigners reached the showroom in a car around 2.30pm, asking if Kumar could converse in English.
Kumar, in the hope of making a great sale, kicked off a casual conversation with the two men.
They told him that they were from Greece and were working with a multi-national corporation in Bengaluru.
While one distracted Kumar on the pretext of inspecting two-wheelers, the other bought a t-shirt for 500.
When the salesperson moved aside to attend to another customer, the other man quickly stole a bundle of cash from the counter.
The two men immediately left the place.
Kumar, who returned to the counter a few minutes later, was shocked to find the cash missing.
Upon checking CCTV camera footage, he found that the foreigners had stolen the money.
He also noticed that they had deliberately covered their car’s number plate with slush.
Based on Kumar’s complaint, the Sriperumbudur police launched a hunt for the suspects.
