Chennai: The campaign for the election of the upcoming local agency should not stretch more than 10 nights, said The Greater Chennai Corporation on Saturday.
Overcoming political party representatives, corporate commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi said the campaign could occur from 6am to 10pm.
“Political parties should not distribute any pamphlets during the campaign that have no party names and symbols,” he said, adding that the parties were told not to attach campaign poster on public and private walls.
A candidate member ward can only spend RS 90,000 according to the norm of the commissioner of the election of the country, said Commissioner.
“Political parties must instruct cadres not to behave in a way that will cause riots between different caste, religious or linguistic groups,” the commissioner added.
He said that the parties were instructed not to turn on the caste or communal tension in an effort to take a voice.
Places of worship should not be used for election campaigns.
