Chennai: The level of storage at Poondi Reservoir touches 2,823 MCFT and PWD on Sunday releasing water at a rate of 1,000 cubic feet per second (cusecs).
A senior PWD official told Ti that the maximum water level at the Poondi reservoir was 35 feet, and on Sunday morning, he touched 34 feet.
This release is due to the continuous flow of water from two reservoirs in neighboring Andhra Pradesh.
The official said the area adjacent from the Ammapalli reservoir, which was near Nagari at the AP, received continuous rain, forcing the AP government to release water.
Apart from this, the water from the Kandaleru reservoir also flowed through Krishna’s channel to the Pondi reservoir.
PWD will continue the water release at a level of 1,000 cusecs from PoDi until Monday.
Depending on the rainfall and the inflow of neighboring countries, there will be a decision about the use of more water, the official said.
On Sunday, the combined water storage rate in six reservoirs, including the Veeranam tank in the Cuddalore district, is 10,849 MCFT with a full storage rate of 13,222 MCFT.
With a storage rate in six reservoirs is very convenient, Metrowater continues to supply 983 million liters of water per day to consumers.
