Students can also do up to two online courses in one semester against one course under current rules.
“Previously, the study break was only allowed on a medical basis,” said an official.
New changes are part of the university’s plan to provide uniformity in engineering education offered at affiliated colleges, autonomous colleges, and university departments.
While colleges affiliated following 80%: 20% weight system for final semester exams and internal tests, autonomous colleges and university departments follow 60%: 40% and 50%: 50%: 50% unity system.
In accordance with new regulations, theory courses with laboratory components will have 50% hiber: 50% for the final semester exam and internal assessment.
For laboratory courses, it will be a 60% battery material for internal assessments in the final semester exam.
The number of internal assessments has also been reduced from three to two per semester.
“There will be two internal assessments in each semester and each assessment will be made for 100 marks.
Individual assignments or case studies or seminars or mini projects will carry 40 signs while the written test will be made for 60 signs.

New regulations will provide more flexibility to students.” In accordance with the previous regulations, students must complete arrears in four attempts, if others may have to repeat the course in the fifth semester.
“The engineering college said students with arrears stopped the course and joined the university that was considered.
So, the regulation was dropped,” V-C said.
The university also allows students to appear for the arrangement examination in the next semester.
According to the existing rules, a student can remove arrears from a strange semester only in the next strange semester when the course is offered again.
“If a student cannot remove in three attempts, the minimum value of 50% in the final semester exam can be declared passed,” said the new regulation.
P Deiva Sundari, Principal, KCG College of Technology, said, “Increased unity for internal assessments including assignments and case studies, mini projects will help students get more active learning.
This has provided more space for results-based education.” ” Pass mark for the final semester exam has been maintained at 45 to ensure that there is no standard dilution in evaluating students, “he added.
The university also introduced new values ”C”.
“Students who remove the exam with 50 signs will get a value of C,” said an official from the University.
The university also includes science clubs, literary clubs and art clubs other than NCC and NSS to instill scientific patience among students.
“All colleges are encouraged to start these clubs.
Students are encouraged to participate in one of these clubs as part of extracurricular activities,” the official added.
New regulations also introduce project work in the pre-final semester for engineering students.
However, some professors say the university needs to develop the right mechanism to monitor universities affiliated to see that they provide value in internal assessments based on impartial evaluation.
“If we apply the relative assessment to thousands of students in a subject, it will not make a lot of differences,” B Chidambarajan, the principal, SRM Valliamamai Engineering College, said.
