Chennai: Minister of Electricity Tamil Nadu V Senthil Balaji on Thursday said the electric board has saved 1.32 lakh Polish electricity and the power conductor of 16,500 km and other infrastructure to meet demand.
Talking to reporters in Chennai after a review meeting with officials, the minister said the department has 7,000 transformers, 1.071 transformer structure, one lakh ‘v’ arm, 6,000 earth pipes, 75,000 lt arm, 1,270 pillar boxes, 65km long ht cable and 1,000 long lt cables Km.
“About 4,000 engineers and 36,000 staff are involved for round monitoring.
Every office of the supervisory engineer has a team of officials led by a 24-hour monitoring executive engineer during the rain,” Minister said.
Special teams are constantly involved in repairing and checking the power line that leads to a substation.
The power utility has also maintained 12,100 staff members ready in nine districts to recover damaged infrastructure, including 4,000 in Chennai and suburban – 2,043 in Chengalpet, 1,350 in Kancheepuram and 1,800 in Cuddalore.
“Upgrade and maintenance work occurred in front of Monsoon.
Thus, the steps have been taken to ensure that the power supply is not too affected,” Minister said.
Previously, Balaji told officials to accelerate the steps to improve power disturbances and urged staff to act very carefully in their work.
The power supply must be temporarily disrupted in areas affected by heavy rain to prevent accidents and restore after ensuring public safety.
Hospitals, water supply and high public use places must be prioritized for power distribution.
Adequate staff, power infrastructure, safety equipment, Earthmover and other utilities must be ensured.
