PANAJI: To avoid controversy in front of the upcoming assembly selection, the state government will not make a decision to complete the land for the IIT campus in Goa.
The institute currently functions from Farmagudi.
Nearly nine months ago, the state government made a decision to memo the IIT-Goa project in Melauli.
This is then a committee to complete the land to establish campuses, but not much progress has been made to identify land.
A senior official said that the government was in no hurry to resolve the soil for the Iit-Goa during the election year, and could wait until the election ended.
“The new government may have to make a decision to complete the land to establish the IIT-Goa,” he said.
Other officials said, “Even in Melauli, they should ask for compensation.
This project will appoint it to a much higher level of economic development.
No one wants the IIT-Goa campus in their area, and it is surprising,” he said.
A little more than two months ago, CM Pramod Sawant said that the state government would soon announce a place where the IIT-Goa campus would be regulated.
He said there was no room in Tuem, Pernem, to establish the Institute.
“The state government identifies land to establish IIT-Goa,” he said.
In January, Sawant accessed requests to the local residents to shift the project from their village.
“The decision to shift the project was taken to remember the sentiments of the people and the request of the Minister of Health Vishwajit Rane, who is also a local MLA, and local representatives,” Sawant said.
The government’s movement to cancel the project in Melauli was the highlight of the agitation of six months by the population.
The government has a previous identified site in Canacona and Sanguem for the Institute.
The Minister of Power and Curchorem Mla Nilesh Cabral said that the constituents “welcome” the project.
The government can now search for sites in Dharbandora, Sanguem or Quepem to establish the Institute.
