Guwahati: First phase of online liquor sales in Assam, which goes into force with direct effects, has been limited to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) area, the State Excise Ministry said on Friday.
This will be extended to other parts of the country gradually.
The notification issued by the Excise Ministry said that the steps had been taken because the limitation induced by Covid imposed by the government and the Supreme Court and Madras High Court allowed indirect sales to avoid density.
“Online sales of all Indian foreign liquor (IMFL) / Beer / State Spirit in retail stores ‘off’ in the Guwahati Municipal Corporation area have been introduced,” said a government statement.
There are 306 IMFL stores in Guwahati.
