Gurgaon: The State Wildlife Department plans to set a total of 6,000 bird nest boxes in six districts.
This initiative aims to provide homes for birds as the majority of them face habitat loss.
According to officials, the boxes will come in two sizes – one for smaller and other birds for medium sized poultry.
The department will start the drive by distributing 1,000 bird nest boxes in each district of South Haryana next month.
The districts are Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noah, Palwal, Mehendragarh and Rewari.
The department will survey urban areas in the district to find out areas where boxes can be placed.
“Bird boxes will be placed in the urban area whe-re tree lid is lacking.
We will distribute these boxes to schools, communities, pancrayats and office space,” said Malik Malik, CCF Margastiwa, Gurgaon.
Smaller boxes will be in a 9×9 square inch while a larger box will be 1×1 square feet in the area.
Each box has a large opening for suitable birds.
“These boxes, made of waste wood, will provide nesting places for birds.
We have received a design approved by the government.
This is one of our initiatives for this year to ensure that the population of birds in urban areas does not decrease,” he added.
“The boxes will attract birds like sparrows, mynah, and others, which are reduced in the amount because of urbanization,” he added.
According to experts, it is best to install a bird house in a protected area.
The incoming hole must always be facing away from the wind that applies to help protect the subtle hatches of rigid winds or wind-driven rain.
Officials from Haryana Forest Development Corporation said this project would be very helpful in capturing slides in the population of species and helping them breed.
A study conducted in 2010 in a sparrow in Delhi / NCR by the natural bomb of the history of the Society (BNHS) pointed to a rapid decline in the population of the sparrow in the region.
However, bird fans believe that the sparrows and mynah have not been in the list of species facing extinction and the government must do more to preserve endangered species.
“The government must conduct a project to create a greener and unamed forest space to save bird species.
Sparrows and Mynah is still found in rural areas,” said Pankaj Gupta, a member of the Delhi bird community.
