NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved raised subsidies of Rs 14,775 crore to Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and a few additional non-urea fertilisers to maintain the cost of harvest nutrients for farmers reduced despite the increasing prices of raw materials.
DAP is still the most commonly used soil nutrient following urea.
Last month, the Centre had made a decision to raise the subsidy on DAP fertiliser by 140% in a high speed assembly chaired by PM Modi.
Minister of state for chemicals and fertilisers Mansukh Mandaviya stated that this was achieved for the advantages of farmers.
“Farmers will still continue to have DAP in the old rate of Rs 1,200 a luggage,” he explained.
1 tote has 50 kilograms of this fertiliser.
According to him, the subsidy for DAP fertiliser was raised to Rs 1,200 each tote in Rs 500 per luggage to offer aid to farmers.
Mandaviya explained that in the event of urea, the retail price is adjusted while the subsidy level keeps changing.
In a typical, he stated that the government is supplying Rs 900 per tote subsidy on urea.
However, the government gives a predetermined quantity of subsidy on non-urea fertilisers, for example DAP.
