Nagpur: The Central Government Expenditure Financing Committee (EFC) will make a final decision on the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) pollution reduction project at a meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The Civic body proposes to complete the project within eight years.
The source of the NMC told TII, “EFC will decide on the fate of the project on Wednesday.
Only mere formalities will remain for the cabinet of unions to approve the project if cleaned by EFC on Wednesday.
Seven Department officials including the Ministry of Finance, Niti Ayog, Housing and Urban, water and sanitation affairs, Jalshakti, statistics etc.
will be present at the meeting, “said the source.
The source added EFC will also decide whether to approve the project costs approved by NMC, the National River Conservation Directorate (NRCD), and the state government.
“The Japanese international cooperation agency based in Japan (JICA) has completed the formality and will begin distributing loans after approval from the Union Cabinet,” said the source.
Commissioner of the city of Radhakrishnan B, Superintending Engineer Manoj Talewar, Shweta Banerjee and others will be present at the meeting, giving a presentation about the project and also replied to questions.
In a presentation prepared by NMC, the timeline for the implementation of the project was repaired at eight years.
The timeline completed by EFC will be very important for disbursement of funds.
This might be the first timeline for the project implementation has been done by civilian bodies.
At the initial stage, the deadline is saved for only three years.
NMC has also revised project costs to RS2.117.56 Crore.
The center will bear RS1.323.42 Crore, RS496.34 Crore and NMC RS297.80 Crore.
When the Country Cabinet cleared the project which was revised in January 2020, it costs RS2.412.64 Crore and RS2.434 Crore when approved by NRCD.
Before the revision in the project, it costs RS1,476.96 Crore.
This fee is done according to the current tariff schedule in 2014.
Because of delays in the process of completion, costs increase to RS2.117.56 Crore.
