Tokyo: Covid-19 infection related to the Tokyo Olympics rose to 148 after the organizer reported 16 new cases on Monday, including three athletes.
Organizers, in their daily Covid-19 update, announced that three athletes, four contractors, eight matches of the personnel were concerned and one employee match had been found positively covid.
All three athletes are not residents of the Olympic Village, who have reported 16 cases since they opened.
One personnel connected with games and contractors are Japanese residents in fresh additions.
Three athletes and seven matches in question were placed under the quarantine of 14 days mandatory.
The total number of personnel concerned to be tested positively has so far established 83 after adding 8 new cases.
Contingencies that have been hit by Covid-19 after landing in Tokyo include the Czech Republic, the United States, Chile, South Africa and the Netherlands among others.
Of these, the Czech Republic asked the possibility of violating the health safety protocol with its contingent after four athletes were tested positive for viruses, forcing withdrawals from the beach volleyball and road cycling events.
On Monday, the committee urged the media that covered the game to comply with the Covid-19 protocol, by saying that they had “made aware of the incident of alleged non-compliance”.
They warned “consequences of discipline” for violating the rules set on health safety prevention measures.
