Tokyo: Indian table tennis player G Sathiyan suffered an annoyed defeat in the hands of SIU Hang Lam ranked low to do early out of the men’s singles competition in the Tokyo match, here on Sunday.
Rank 38 and 26th-seeded Sathiyan had a 3-1 lead who ruled but lost four consecutive matches to lose 3-4 to Hong Kong players ranked 95th.
The first game was tight but Hong Kong player moved away from 6-6 with his forehand at work.
Sathiyan replaced teeth after the opening match easily.
He not only put a strong defense but flattened the match when he crashed back to a ferocious forehand.
Sathiyan raced to lead 5-1 in the third match in a way that dominated and continued to be strong because the game was a mess and in a short time and Sathiyan led 2-1 in his pocket.
Indians now even about the backhand flicks for winners while Lam’s error continues to increase.
But there is a twist in the story with parity drawing Lam by taking the next two matches.
Sathiyan saved two game points in the sixth game to keep lam under pressure but made a mistake at the third game point.
In a decisive game, Lam opened a 5-2 lead by destroying the forehand winner after time runs out.
Immediately, Sathiyan fell 6-9.
He crashed into a forehand to go down with the match point.
