New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with Indian athletes who are bound to the Tokyo Olympics on July 13 at 5 pm through video conferencing.
“Interaction by the Prime Minister is an attempt to motivate athletes on their participation in the match.
He recently reviewed the preparation for the Facilitating Indian contingent in Tokyo-2020,” said the official release of the Prime Minister’s office (PMO)).
Recently, the Prime Minister Modi has discussed the inspirational journey from several athletes in Mann Ki Baat, besides urging the nation to advance and wholeheartedly support them.
This event will be attended by Anurag Thakur, Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs; Nisith Pramanik, MOS and Sports Youth Affairs and Rijiju Kiren, Minister of Law.
A total of 126 athletes in 18 sports disciplines from India will go to Tokyo.
This is the most contingent India that is being sent to any Olympics.
69 Cumulative events in 18 sports disciplines that will participate in India are also the highest for the country.
There are some first handling in terms of participation.
For the first time in its history, fencing from India (Bhavani Devi) has qualified for the Olympics.
Nethra kupanan is the first female sailor from India to qualify for the Olympics.
Sajan Prakash and Srihari Nataraj are the first swimmers from India to qualify for the Olympic match by reaching the ‘A’ qualification standard in swimming.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has confirmed that the Boxer Mary Kom and the Hockey team of Manpreet Singh’s captain will be a bearer for the Indian contingent at the Tokyo Olympics who will come at the opening ceremony.
Wrestler Bajrang Punia will be a flag bearer at the closing ceremony.
The Indian contingent will leave for Tokyo on July 17.
The Olympics will run from July 23 – August 8.
