Tokyo: Sumit Nagal Indian tennis player will face Denis Istomin in Uzbekistan in the opening round of the men’s singles at the Tokyo Olympics, starting on Friday.
Nagal, who qualified for last week’s match after a large scale withdrawal, was pitted with a low ranking Uzbek in the lottery on Thursday.
A first round of 23-year-old victory for India, ranked 160th, could see him face Danil Medvedev who was released by Russia, who took Alexander Bumblik in his opening round match.
In the women’s doubles, the grand slam champion six times Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina will lock horns with twin kichenok – Nadiia and Lyudmyla – from Ukraine in the opening round.
Interestingly, Mirza has paired with Nadiaia after returning from the maternity leave to win the Hobart open last year.
