NEW DELHI: Minister of Union Affairs of Youth and Anurag Sports Thakur on Saturday Paralympics Tokyo 2020 Silver Mediyappan ThangaveLu and King B coach in New Delhi.
Speaking on that occasion, Thakur said, “Mariyappan has made the country proud of his appearance in Rio and now in Tokyo.
I congratulate him and take this opportunity to congratulate all our fantastic athletes.” Speaking to the Minister of Sports, Mariyappan said: “I hope to win gold for India but because of the weather conditions on the day of the event, I cannot fulfill that dream.
I am sure that in Paris I will win the country’s gold again.” After winning the Silver Medal at The men’s high jump event in Tokyo’s ongoing Paralympics, Mariyappan ThangaveLu on Tuesday said he would clear the 1.90m sign if his condition was better and not much rain.
He skipped the flag bearer at the opening ceremony because he was identified as a close contact with a person infected with Covid-19.
Mariyappan and Sharad Kumar won silver and bronze respectively in the men’s high jump final at the National Stadium in Tokyo on Tuesday.
They are both T42 sports classes.
Mariyappan won silver after jumping over a 1.86m mark.
This is a second medal in the match, after winning gold in Rio 2016.
Meanwhile, Sharad Kumar won Bronze after leaving the best value of the season 1.83m.
