Tokyo: Tokyo has decided to move the first half of the 15-day Olympic torch relay scheduled to take place in the public road capital, the Metropolitan government said on Tuesday, because the number of Coronavirus infection showed signs of a surge again.
Relay torches reached to reach the capital on July 9, mostly pass through the outskirts of the outside and islands before reaching through the city center from July 17 to the opening ceremony of the match on July 23.
During July 18 to July 18, the torch lighting ceremony will be held without viewers and the relay will not be held on public roads, the Metropolitan government said.
Relays on the islands, however, will be stored on public roads.
The Tokyo government will soon decide how to do a torch relay in the second half of the capital’s feet, while carefully watching the Coronavirus situation.
Japan has not suffered an outbreak of explosive viruses seen in other places, but recently just emerged from the wave of fourth infection.
The decline in the pace of new cases and pick-up in the launch of vaccination encouraged the authorities to facilitate emergencies in Tokyo and eight other prefectures on June 20.
However, with delayed Olympics, experts worried about new increases.

“The number of national infections is in a downward trend, settling,” economic minister Yasutoshi Nishimura said at a press conference on Tuesday.
He added, however, that the rate of infection remained “rather high” in the capital of Tokyo and several other regions.
Tokyo recorded 476 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, marking the 10th day in a row in a week-in weeks up.
Japan has recorded more than 792,600 cases of viruses and more than 14,600 deaths.
More than 20% of the population have at least one Covid-19 vaccine shot.
