Aizawl: Heavy rain, locally known as “AI Ruah” or “The Rain of the Crabs”, created Havoc and left a trace of destruction in a low-lying area in Mizoram because of the large areas of rice cultivation and fish ponds were flooded.
The worst districts are the Northeast Champhai District of Mizoram which is bordered by the Myanmar Sereshhip District and Central Mizoram where Paddy Harvest is on flat land.
The area of the paddy fields that were submerged or harvested rice swept near the city of Champhai, Bulfekzll and rice fields near the Sungai Kurung, one of the Tiau tributaries of the Myanmar border.
A large number of farmers also lost a large number of fish when their fish pond sank.
A swelled Tiau flooded the rice fields along the banks while the river “Khawhhak Tiipui” which took place through the Champhai lowlands created chaos in “Champhai Zawl”, because the large area of rice fields known as “Mizoram rice bowl” was flooded.
