Tottenham Hotspur has fired the manager of Nuno Espirito Santo, the Premier League club announced on Monday, after a 3-0 home loss to Manchester United on the weekend left the eighth London side at the table.
Spurs have topped the Premier League in August after winning their opening three matches but lost for the fifth time in the league to now sit 10 points behind the Chelsea leader.
Nuno’s coaching staff had also been released from their duty.
The club has not announced replacement but British media reported former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte was linked.
“I know how many Nuno and his coaching staff want to succeed and I regret that we have to make this decision,” said Soccer Director Spurs Fabio Paratici in a statement.
“Nuno is a real man and will always be welcomed here.
We want to say thank you and staff of his coaching and hope they are good for the future.” Nuno was appointed as a permanent substitute for Jose Mourinho on a two-year contract in the meeting season after impressive for four campaigns at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The 47-year-old was the third Premier League manager to lose his job since the beginning of the season after Watford fired Xisco Munoz while Newcastle United separated from Steve Bruce following the Saudi LED takeover.
Startnuno bright has a smart start in Spurs, beating Manchester City champions on the opening day and won awards in August about the award after three wins – the best start of the club for the Premier League season.
However, their season decomposed after defeat at four London Derbies against Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Arsenal and West Ham United.
Losing 3-0 from United without a shot on the target had spurred fans of nuno and singing, “You don’t know what you are doing”.
Spurs, Champions League finalists in 2019 have also struggled in the European Conference League – UEFA’s new third level competition.
They sat third in their group, behind Rennes and Vitesse Arnhem, with only one victory from three matches in front of the next match against Vitese on Thursday.
Nuno could not apply the attacking philosophy in Spurs, the club leader Reasons Daniel Levy had fired Mourinho in an effort to find someone who could help them play “free-flowing, attacking, and entertaining”.
Spurs only scored nine goals in 10 league matches and the club had the worst goal difference (-7) after the club under the city of Norwich and Newcastle.
Nuno also struggled to get the best from Harry Kane England striker, who failed to negotiate away from the club during the closing season.
Kane, last season’s winner of the gold boot with 23 goals, has scored only once in nine league performances this season.
