New Delhi: The Ministry of Defense on Tuesday gave more permits for more than RS 5,000 Crore dealing with Russia to produce 7.5 lakh AK-203 assault rifles at Amethi Uttar Pradesh.
This came ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin who was expected to visit next month.
The AK-203 assault rifle agreement, which can be signed during a visit, was released by the defense acquisition council meeting on Tuesday, the Defense source said to Ani.
AK-203 designed by Russia will be made at the factory in Amethi.
The agreement was agreed upon between the two parties a few years ago and now the last major problem will solve the problem of technology transfer, they said.
From the 7.5 lakh rifle which will be acquired by the Indian Army, the first 70,000 will include components made by Russia because technology transfers occur slowly.
It will be sent to the Army 32 months after the production process starts.
