Towering polls, BMC has not sent the limits of the corporator ward to EC

Mumbai: Preparation for the upcoming BMC polls seems to be behind the schedule because the Civic body has not submitted the revised dead boundaries for its 236 corporator seats to the commissioner of the State Election (SEC).
According to BMC officials, nine additional seats will be equally shared between the island cities, and the east and western edges, with three corporator seats increasing in each of these regions.
A BMC senior official said the first draft of the revised environmental boundaries was sent to second two weeks ago, where the chair increase was carried out strictly by holding fast to the boundaries of the natural area and also the wander’s administrative ward.
But BMC was asked for several changes, which included participating in a certain order and starting the Corporator seat numbering from the North and so on.
“We have completed a revised draft too and the same thing must be submitted to the EC next week,” said the official, admitted that they were behind the schedule given that the current period of time from 227 Corporators ended in the first week of March 2022.
The official was also Indicates that once the draft re-delivered, the next step will include inviting suggestions and objections, which will be carried out by EC.
Unlike the 2017 election where the lottery for Ward reservations was held in October 2016, this time had not been done.
That will happen only after the suggestion stage / objection is complete.
Corporator chair bookings are replaced every five years through lottery systems and environmental restrictions.
While 50% are reserved for female candidates, there are parallel reservations for the scheduled caste, the scheduled tribe and Candidate Category OBC among women in this chair.
The last time the number of election wards increased in Mumbai in 2002, when the number of wards rose from 221 to 227.
At present, at House Civic 227 seats, Shiv Sena has 97 seats while BJP has 83, Congress.
29, NCP 8, and the Samjwadi Party (SP) six seats.
All Indian majlis-e-ittehad-ul-Muslimeen has two chairs and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has one.
One of the Covid crisis falls is that officials have been directed to make arrangements to increase the number of pollings.
There are around 7,900 stan designated now, which may need to be increased by BMC to 11,500 to reduce crowding.
Each booth is intended for 1,400-1,500 voters.
