Thiruvananthapuram: One more small-scale trader in the state has ended his life after blaming the financial crisis caused by covid-19-induced locking.
Vijayakumar Nair, 56, from Sadasivam House, Thevikonam near Pidaram below the boundary of the Malayinkezhezh police station was the deceased.
He was found hanging from the blind on the back side of his house on Thursday.
Malayinkezh police have registered cases on unnatural deaths.
Vijayakumar is a trader who runs his stationery shop in a rented room in a commercial building located in Pidaram Junction.
The police have recovered a handwriting note from his pocket, aimed at his family, where he blamed the covid-19-induced locking induced as the reason for the problem he faced.
He mentioned in notes that he had borrowed money from banks and individuals for business purposes.
The lack of trade during a pandemic makes it unable to repay the loan and debt.
He thanked his brother-in-law Rajesh because he helped him monetally on many occasions.
He also mentions that a list of people who lend money, can be found in his shop, and the family can restore the debt by selling property on his name.
Speaking to Toi, Vijayakumar’s younger brother, Harikumar said that the family did not realize the true value of his debt.
He never discussed things like that in detail with family.
He has run this shop for the past 18 years.
Even though he could open a store for business after the restriction of the triple lockdown casually, he still complained because he could not do a good business because the time limit was intended at working hours.
” Yesterday, he didn’t open a shop.
Instead, he came to my house and spent time with our parents who lived with me, “said Harikumar.
He added that as far as the conscious family, Vijayakumar had a debt of more than Rs 15 Lakh.
In addition, the owner of the shop building tells them on Thursday that he could not pay rent for the past seven months.
