Rajkot: Extreme economic difficulties lead the affected elderly pair in Mavdi Rajkot Village to end their lives by hanging themselves at their residence in Mavadi Village in Rajkot City on Thursday.
Covid-19’s induced slowdown left the 60-year-old Gopal Gopal Garment Shop business in Limbo, which finally ended with him and his 58-year-old wife, Nirmla hanged himself at their residence on the 12th floor of their residential building.
The couple left a suicide note, police said.
“Because Covid-19, the retail business was hit hard and we suffered financial losses of hugs and therefore, we took this extreme step,” said the note.
“The incident was revealed when they did not answer phone calls made by their daughter who lived in Vadodara.
Worried about his parents because he did not answer his phone call, he immediately asked his brother, Rahul who lived in Rajkot, to go to their house and find out .
Rahul reached the place only to find their parents hanging from the ceiling fan in the room, “police said.
The deceased and his son Rahul had a readymade clothing store near Balaji Hall on a 150-foot ring road in the city, added the police.
