Traffic curbs from tonight to August 15 at Kolkata

KOLKATA: The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority and Kolkata Police are gearing up for their biggest battle this season — equipping the damaged Vivekananda Road flyover, popularly called Posta flyover — by that Tuesday.
Traffic adjustments to ease work will be set up from Monday night and keep on until the dawn of August 15.
KMDA officials and cops explained the agency commissioned with the dismantling project will pull the flyover arrangement below the oversight of RITES.
A particular machine has been generated from Italy for its dismantling work that will guarantee safety in the densely populated region, resources from KMDA stated.
The cops explained the non-use of large cranes within this stage will indicate that cops will have larger space to correct parking difficulties.
The Kolkata traffic authorities have awakened a large traffic diversion strategy around Strand Road using all the Posta flyover demolition work expected to go on until mid-August.
“The greatest challenge is to maintain your MG Road traffic going.
We needed to create the stretch ways from Strand Road into Central Avenue.
However, if we let every car out of Girish Park with this stretch, it’s very likely to choke traffic.
Consequently, while we might enable smaller automobiles in MG Road in short hours, then we must make sure the Posta along with Girish Park-bound smaller vehicles will likely be requested to choose the Maharshi Debendra Road and the Kalikrishna Tagore Street to proceed farther north.
Just buses and minibuses will be requested to select the MG Road,” said an officer.
Another challenge is that the movement of trucks to Posta.
“While trucks will probably do much better to go into through Dunlop, people in the vent region and Santragachhi and led for Strand Road (South) will be redirected towards Central Avenue-Rabindra Sarani.
Trucks need to input via CR Avenue-Beadon Street-Nimtala Ghat Road and eventually Strand Bank Road.
This will indicate travelling additional kilometres through several active stretches.
While motion at night may not be a problem, these trucks going out of the vent following noon under the particular permissions may face difficulties,” added the officer.
“We’ve held meetings with dealers and transporters of both Burrabazar-Posta regions and we aspire to satisfy the emerging challenges together,” stated a Howrah Bridge traffic shield officer.
The executing agency — that is functioning on behalf of KMDA — has marked out the region between Nawab Lane and also Posta Crossing, a stretch of 115 yards, in which it’s eliminated lamp posts and put up barricades.
“The bureau that has been requested to perform the job will probably use advanced equipment including diamond cutters, heavy duty lifting machines, trestles and floor movers to trim and pull the concrete slabs by the deck part in little bits without any vibration and even sound.
This job could be achieved using just considerably smaller cranes.
When the concrete deck is pulled , the steel construction of this bridge could be assessed for which gasoline cutters are needed,” stated a bridge specialist.
