Kurukshetra: Traffic Police were dragged for more than half a kilometer along with the jeep when the driver refused to stop at the checkpoint and tried to hit and ran past the police who pushed him to jump over the hood to save his life, police said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on Monday night when Constable Sanjiv Kumar served at the police checkpoint on the highway in Kurukshetra, police deputy supervisor Subhash Chander told reporters on Tuesday.
Kumar had signaled the bolero’s jeep to stop but his driver, accompanied by two other people, ignored his signal and tried to run past the police, who had to jump to the jeep hat to save himself.
The Jeep driver still doesn’t stop the vehicle and keeps driving and even increases speed in an effort to throw Sanjiv, force him to hold fast to the hood for his life, DSP said.
The vehicle was finally forced to stop by other police, including the Assistant Sub-Inspector of Gulab Singh, who all pursued vehicles for more than half kilometers, he said.
All drivers’ actions could kill the police, Deputy SP said.
The defendant’s actions were also filmed by the police, he said.
When Jeep was finally forced to stop, Sanjiv Kumar fell to the ground and suffered injuries, he added.
The Jeep driver, identified as Nurdeep aka Lovepreet, and his two feet arrested, Deputy SP said.
The driver of the vehicle has been charged for attempts to murder and violating other penalties, he added.
