Nagpur: Divisional Commissioner Prajaka Lavangare Verma, during his first press conference last week, said the transgender community registration would be one of the priorities in the agenda of his non-covid work.
He has taken over the government from the commissioner of the Division of Istama Sanjeev Kumar.
After moving to a hot seat at important points when the second wave almost receded and preparation for the next ongoing, Verma also said that he held a meeting of different welfare committees to set priorities.
“Social welfare work and other related developments at the grassroots level also need to move at a fast speed,” he said.
Human Rights Activist Anand Chandrani, founder of President Sarathi Trust, said the government has created a national portal where members of the Transgender Community can make themselves registered.
“The Department of Justice and Social Welfare issued an identification card for the transgender community after they enrolled them on the national portal based on which they could benefit from several government schemes,” Chandrani said, added, there was a need to create this portal awareness.
“The transgender community found it difficult to register on this portal,” he said.
“If an officer ranks Commissioner Divisionist takes a sharp interest in the problem of transgender and other marginalized communities, then it will definitely add to them, ‘said Chandrani.
He also said that the district collector has also helped them arrange camps for Adhaar cards and documents Other documents at the end of the week for transgender and other communities.
