Ahmedabad: In what is said to be the largest drug transported from Gujarat and perhaps India, the Directorate of Intelligence Revenue (DRI) on Monday expressed a 2,988kg seizure or close to 3 tons of heroin from Port Mundra.
The operation has been going on from September 14.
High-ranking officials said that the contraband it could be worth RS 20,900 crore if someone considered the heroin rate in the international market to around Rs 7 Crore per kg.
“The consignment was imported by M / S Aashi Trading Company based in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.
It was declared a semi-processed talih stone from Afghanistan and was sent from Port Abbas in Iran,” said a senior official.
“Based on certain intelligence, the consignment was intercepted by officers and two containers derived for further investigation.” It was a frightening task like total, there were about 20 strange bags of about 2 tons of powder and each semi-solid stone.
Officials associate on experts to assess the contents of each bag carefully and find 2,000 kg of heroin from one container and 989kg from the others.
Sources that are aware of developments say that every delivery containing contraband goods has stones above, powder talai in the middle, and heroin powder at the bottom.
Thus it took more than four days for officers to ensure an inappropriate amount of contraband goods.
“The examination was carried out by officers from the Forensic Sciences (DFS) Directorate, Gandhinagar.
During the examination, narcotics allegedly found from the two containers,” the official said.
“The DFS report confirmed to become a heroin confiscated under the provisions of the NDPS Law, 1985.” The official said it was considered a high-quality heroin.
Officials said that based on information so far, the search was conducted in Ahmedabad, Delhi, Chennai, Gandhidham, and Mandvi.
