Chhotaudepur: The young tribal pair from a village in the Chhotaudepur Gujarat district was allegedly kidnapped, bound to the tree and was contacted with a stick as a punishment for Eloping, police said on Wednesday.
The police have arrested nine men because of the alleged attack on Chileinavant Village under the Rangpur police station in Chhotaudepur Regency on Tuesday, the police deputy supervisor said V Katkad.
A video incident, which appeared on social media, showed some men turned to defeat the couple, which was bound to trees, with sticks in front of other villagers, police said.
In learning about the events through the video, the police rushed to the village on Wednesday and arrested the defendants on charges of riots, abduction and illegal confinement based on complaints submitted by the victim’s girl, the official said.
“The couple had married on July 18 with the intention of getting married.
However, villagers who were angry finally traced them to the neighboring village and took them back to Chileinavant on Tuesday morning.
The defendant binded the duo with a stick,” Dys said.
The victim in his complaint has claimed that the defendant was angry because the local tradition bar was married to men and women from the same village, stated.
A similar incident occurred in Dhada Village under the police station Rangpur a month ago, where the tribal couple was attacked by five people as punishment to marry.
