In the previous survey, the city was ranked 102nd.
Although, the ranking has subsequently slipped, the city has maintained the cleanest city label of the state between 23 cities and participating cities of Tamil Nadu.
The results revealed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (Mohua) on Saturdays held under the Mission of Swachh Bharat (urban) saw Trichy scored 3,050.72 marks at 6,000 values.
While the city has done well in the progress of the level of service (project implementation) and citizen feedback (public perception of cleanliness) categories, in the category of ranking certification, Trichy has lost 1,500 marks, so that it takes a large plunge in the national rank.
The certification category verifies city waste-free status and open defecation status.
From third place in the first training of Swachh Survekshan in 2016, the city has seen constant degradation.
In the population category of less than 10 lakh, Salem and Pulajottai are secured ranked 163 and 224, respectively, in a 2021 survey.
