Delegation of Five Members of Parliament – Sougata Roy, Sajda Ahmed and Mohua Moitra from members of the Sabha and Rajya Sabha Sukhendu Sekhar Ray and newly elected members of Jawar Sircar – Urge the EC to do the earliest Bypolls since the Covid-19 situation in the beginning of a controlled country.
Although there is time until November for the Bypolls to be held, the upcoming festival season can come on the path of polls, TMC delegates argue.
The TMC delegation from parliamentarians submitted a written reply to the previous EC letter which was looking for views from all parties in holding elections.
The source said the EC assured the delegation that it would hold the Bypoll in seven seats according to the mandate.
EC can consult with the Head of Secretary and CEO of West Bengal in the coming days to assess the Covid-19 situation in the state before making the last call, the source said.
Moitra told the media that “it is a good meeting and EC also talks about the possibility of holding the Bypoll in two phases if necessary”.
