CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh was chosen the best Smart City among UTs, shared the first prize in culture category for its project of revitalization of Capitol Complex and came second for effective implementation of the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).
The winners of the India Smart Cities Awards Contest 2020 were announced by the ministry of housing and urban affairs on Friday.
The ministry released the rankings during an online event organised to commemorate six years of the three urban missions — Smart Cities Mission (SCM), AMRUT and PMAY-U, which were launched by PM Narendra Modi on June 25, 2015.
Municipal commissioner K K Yadav along with senior officers attended the event and received the awards.
Under the culture category, Chandigarh had identified a problem area, which had led to creation of this project, said Yadav.
Under AMRUT scheme in Chandigarh, 12 projects costing Rs 54.09 crore were approved.
The MC has completed 10 of the 12 works and the rest were likely to be finished by September.
About 20,000 new sewer and water supply connections have been released.
The MC has achieved all reforms required to be carried out under AMRUT every year, Yadav said.
