Thane: The case has been registered against the population of Delhi in the Thane Maharashtra district for allegedly giving the ‘Triple Talaq’ to his wife by telephone, the police said on Thursday.
The first information report below the 498-A IPC section (the attitude of the wife for atrocities) and Muslim women (the protection of the right to marriage), 2019 was submitted at the Tilak Nagar Police Station in Dombivli against Abdul Wahab Khan, said an official said.
Khan married a complainant who came from Kalyan in the district in April 2006 and they have three children, according to FIR.
He used to be drunk and beat him, so last year he returned to his parents’ house, the complainant told the police.
Three days ago, he allegedly called and told him that he married again and he should not create obstacles, said the woman.
When the complainant asked how he could get married without giving his divorce, Khan allegedly claimed that he himself had said the word `talaq ‘(divorce in Islamic law) three times when he defeated him.
Furthermore, he talked about Talaq’s word three times during this conversation and announced that they were divorced, the woman accused.
Providing divorce with this method has been banned under the 2019 Law, and can be punished by prison for up to three years.
The probe continued and no arrest was carried out, police official said.
